Jams and GameDays are gamified sessions that allow you to gain hands-on experience working through real-world scenarios that encourage the use of a variety of AWS and AWS Partner services. Participants of all skill levels are encouraged to participate to validate their existing skills while also learning new ones. There are both time-based events and on-demand content, so come join us and have some fun learning while also trying to get to the top of the leaderboards!
A Jam is an immersive experience that encourages you to up-level your skills on AWS and partner services through the use of hands-on real-world scenarios. The scenarios you will face have varying degrees of difficulty and points associated with them. Come learn new skills or validate the ones you already have!Explore Jams
A GameDay is a collaborative learning exercise that tests skills in implementing AWS solutions to solve real-world problems in a gamified, risk-free environment. This is a completely hands-on opportunity to explore AWS services, architecture patterns, best practices, and group cooperation. If you enjoy open-ended challenges without step-by-step instructions, look no further.Explore GameDays
Jams and GameDays are events where participants can gain experience with a wide range of AWS and AWS Partner services in a series of prepared scenarios that represent common use cases and operational tasks, such as remediation at scale, automation, forensics, incident response, AI/ML, DevOps, compliance, and many others. The events are gamified, with teams competing to score points by completing a series of challenges over the course of the event. AWS and AWS Partners provide access to prepared infrastructure for the scenarios. Participants use these to determine what happened and how to best respond, and then they deploy appropriate solutions. The challenges have varying degrees of difficulty and points associated with them. A live leaderboard provides updates on stats and progress. Clues and guidance help participants move through the challenges.
These learning opportunities are completely hands-on, so we recommend them to a technical audience. Participants should be prepared to work extensively in the AWS Management Console and use live AWS services to apply their technical knowledge to the challenges. The events cover a wide variety of cloud domains, so as long as you have some experience working on AWS, there will be loads of work for you to do! Past participants have spanned all industries and technical backgrounds and come from roles such as system administrators, solutions architects, technical account managers, developers, and more.
Jams and GameDays are similar to an escape room game. You challenge your AWS skills by solving various scenarios that are presented to you throughout your experience. Like an escape room, you will work with a team of individuals with different skills and strengths. As a team, you have to build a strategy for which challenges you would like to take on and choose who is doing what. Sometimes you have to do research and other times you will be the one who is hands-on in the environment.
AWS and AWS Partners will provide all of the infrastructure and technology that you need to work through the different scenarios. Participants just need to bring their drive to learn and experiment along with a computer in order to access the AWS and partner solutions
There are four types of Jams at re:Invent:
The GameDay team will host six regionally targeted events covering the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East and Africa. In typical fashion, Unicorn.Rentals is back seeking technical expertise to upgrade its systems and ensure its customers continue to receive their unicorns on time. We will also debut two brand new GameDay scenarios, and each will run once per week during re:Invent. Please check the GameDay page on the event platform for the official event schedule, and get ready for a new hire orientation you’ll never forget!
In the first new scenario, Unicorn.Rentals announces the Unicorn Polo League (UPL), its foray into the world of organized mythical athletics. Unfortunately, the UPL is nothing without teams, so that’s where you need to step in. Your job will be to stand up a UPL team franchise and look after the day-to-day-operations of your team. Coach unicorns to improve their performance on game day, trade unicorns between teams to assemble the best squad, and manage the health and welfare of your unicorns. Also, be sure to turn a profit to keep the Commissioner happy!
The second new scenario delves into the world of applying AWS services to achieve financial success. Participants will develop and manage an investment portfolio, including price prediction modeling, financial news sentiment analysis, concentration risk monitoring, and data analytics, to visualize market trends. Participants will then compete to select the most profitable portfolio without exceeding risk tolerances. The workloads developed in this GameDay will resonate with the technologists spanning a wide range of sub-disciplines across asset management, trading, market risk, financial control, securities operations, and compliance.
