re:Invent Guide: Machine Learning

Machine Learning Hero

As an AWS ML Hero, I firmly believe that machine learning is the next wave of transformative technology that will change life in unimaginable ways. I’ve helped many developers find their path to machine learning using AWS.

I’m super excited that re:Invent 2019 is almost here! As you plan your agenda, there are several exciting machine learning breakout sessions, hands-on workshops, deep-dive chalk talks, and more, designed for developers, data scientists, executives, and business professionals looking to better understand the technology and quickly bring new ideas to life. I’m happy to see a We Power Tech session on bias in machine learning, as bias is undoubtedly a hot topic as machine learning becomes more widespread and pervasive!

This re:Invent guide will give you all the information you need to maximize the time you spend leveling up your machine learning skills.

AIM208-R

Transform the way you search and interact with enterprise data using AI ›

Do you care about helping your customers or business users find the information they need? In this breakout session, you’ll learn how to use natural language processing, a machine learning technique, to interact with enterprise data.

ML for Engineers, Architects, and Data Scientists

If you’re a developer looking to transition to machine learning; a data scientist wanting to learn how to build, train, and deploy sophisticated models using AWS; or you simply want to leverage machine learning services to make your systems smarter, here are a few sessions for you.

AIM427-R

Take an ML from idea to production using Amazon SageMaker ›

In this can’t-miss workshop, you will use Amazon SageMaker to build a highly accurate text-classification model. You’ll get hands-on with deep-learning frameworks while using a “bring your own algorithm” approach. You’ll even learn how to deploy and host your model, showing the true flexibility of Amazon SageMaker.

ARV306-R

Build a hands-free chatbot with AWS services ›

In this session, you will get hands-on with multiple AWS services to build a chatbot. You’ll also learn how to integrate Amazon Transcribe, Amazon Lex, Amazon Polly, and Amazon Sumerian!

AIM426-R

Worker safety with AWS DeepLens and Amazon Rekognition ›

Combining AWS DeepLens and Amazon Rekognition allows you to build a system that has a visual understanding of the world around it. In this session, you’ll go through the process of building a system to keep workers safe using computer vision.

AIM308

Build accurate training datasets with Amazon SageMaker Ground Truth ›

A machine learning model is useless without good data to learn from. In this session, Vikram Madan will show you how Amazon SageMaker Ground Truth uses active learning to speed up the data labeling process.

AIM319-R

Amazon SageMaker: Use prebuilt Jupyter notebooks ›

In this advanced session, you’ll learn how to move your existing Jupyter notebook to Amazon SageMaker. You’ll also learn how to automate operations and migrate your code to built-in algorithms and frameworks. You’ll be training and deploying machine learning models at scale in no time!

WPT202

We Power Tech: Bias in AI/ML ›

One session that I will not miss is one devoted to addressing bias in machine learning, which has been given a lot of press lately due to the negative consequences of it. In some ways, “bad” bias can limit a machine learning model’s ability to adequately do the job it was designed to do and can even cause the public to lose overall trust in the technology. This session by We Power Tech shouldn’t be missed.

The goal of We Power Tech is to ensure that tech is accessible, flexible, and inclusive. In this can’t-miss session, Prem Natarajan, Nashlie Sephus, and Nicol Turner Lee discuss how machines inherit human bias and how bias affects facial recognition, self-driving cars, and customer service systems and outcomes.

Conclusion

re:Invent 2019 has a lot of sessions that will help you along your machine learning journey. I look forward to connecting with you at re:Invent during one of my sessions or just in passing. See you there!
