Expand your mind and your network

Expand your mind and your network
  • With thousands of AWS enthusiasts gathering at re:Invent each year, attendees have often requested new ways to network, discover, and connect with others. This year we are introducing PeerTalk, re:Invent’s new networking program designed to help facilitate meaningful connections among the re:Invent community.

In-person re:Invent attendees can access the PeerTalk platform through the main AWS Events re:Invent mobile app to view suggested connections (powered by AWS AI/ML services) or search and filter through other attendees who have also opted in. From there, attendees can chat with one another or request in-person meetings of 2–4 people in AWS PeerTalk Lounges located across the campus.

  • To get you excited to connect with other attendees at re:Invent, we compiled a rockstar lineup of PeerTalk Experts who will be active on the PeerTalk platform. Choose from AWS employees such as Jeff Barr and community leaders who have diverse expertise across technical and non-technical topics. Check out their biographies on the PeerTalk Experts page, and request a meeting to connect as soon as the platform is live (meeting slots are limited). Remember, the PeerTalk platform allows you to connect with not only AWS leadership and experts but also all other re:Invent attendees who opt in to participate in PeerTalk.

How to

Navigating PeerTalk with the mobile app

Step 1: Navigate. The re:Invent event is available now in the AWS Events mobile app (download the app today on Google Play or Apple App Store). Use your full conference pass registration credentials to log in, and then select the More menu and then PeerTalk.

Step 2: Onboard. Opt in to the terms and conditions and complete the onboarding steps. Only after these steps are complete, will you be added to the PeerTalk platform and will be discoverable to other re:Invent attendees.

Step 3: Discover. The Recommended page contains a library of potential connections based on similar interests. You also have the option to search and filter through all other attendees who have opted in by selecting Attendees. Pro tip: Select the star icon on user profiles to add them to your Favorites list.

Step 4: Chat. Use the chat bubble on the bottom-right corner of your screen to start a chat or reply to one-on-one and group chat conversations. You have the option to accept or deny chat requests prior to chatting. To block a conversation, select the ellipses on the top-right corner.

Step 5: Schedule. To schedule a meeting, select the profile of the attendee with whom you wish to meet. This attendee will be classified as the required participant, and you will have the option to add two optional participants at a later step. The attendee you are inviting is referred to as a required participant because they must accept the request in order for the meeting to be officially scheduled. If they decline, then the meeting is canceled for everyone. Select the Request a Meeting button and proceed with selecting a date, time, location, and up to two optional participants. Finally, enter a meeting title and a description of the conversation, topics, or reason.

Meeting participants can accept, reject, or cancel meetings through the PeerTalk platform. Confirmed meetings appear in your AWS Events mobile app calendar and are removed if they are canceled within PeerTalk.

Step 6: Repeat. The PeerTalk platform closes when re:Invent ends on Friday, December 3, 2022. Make sure to connect with your PeerTalk network through LinkedIn to keep in touch beyond the event.

You can remove yourself from the PeerTalk platform at any time. To remove yourself, opt out via the PeerTalk Profile page. Once you opt out, your PeerTalk meetings are automatically canceled.

FAQs

  • Do I need to sign up to be able to use the PeerTalk platform?

As long as you are a registered in-person re:Invent attendee, you can opt in to PeerTalk through the AWS Events mobile app (open the More menu and select PeerTalk).
  • Who can I connect with on the PeerTalk platform?

You can connect with all other re:Invent attendees who have opted in to PeerTalk by initiating a one-on-one or group chat conversation or requesting an in-person networking meeting of 2–4 people. To help you get started on your networking journey, we have featured PeerTalk experts from various technical and non-technical backgrounds who will be active on the platform. Check out their profiles on the PeerTalk Experts page and search for them on the platform once it’s launched.
  • What if I don’t want to participate in PeerTalk?

As long as you don’t complete the onboarding steps within the PeerTalk platform, you will not be included on the platform. If you onboarded and then changed your mind, you can opt out at any time on your PeerTalk Profile page (note that once you do, your meetings booked through PeerTalk will be canceled).
  • If I opt out can I can opt back in?

Yes, you are welcome to rejoin PeerTalk even after opting out. Your chat conversations and favorites will resume, however your PeerTalk meetings that were canceled while opting out will not be rescheduled on their own.
  • When can I start using PeerTalk?

The platform is live so you can start discovering other attendees, chatting, and booking meetings in advance of re:Invent. Note that meeting slots are limited, first come first serve, and must be booked through the app.
  • How many meetings can I book on PeerTalk?

    There is no limit.
  • What if I need to reschedule a PeerTalk meeting?

There is no rescheduling functionality, so you will need to cancel the meeting and schedule a new one for the new time.
  • What if I receive a meeting request and want to meet, but the time doesn’t work for me?

You can include text when declining a meeting request, so you can ask the meeting requester to reschedule or connect through the PeerTalk chat functionality to schedule a meeting at a time that works for you.
  • Who do I contact for questions or to report inappropriate behavior on the platform?

For general questions about the PeerTalk program, contact awsreinvent-support@amazon.com. If you witness or are subjected to inappropriate behavior while on PeerTalk, promptly contact AWS at aws-events-security-concerns@amazon.com.
